It’s been almost two years of no outside work for me… Mommy life has been completely full time and I have LOVED it… but sometimes mommy needs a mental break – or a mental workout.
So one day, after my mom giving me a little push, I mentioned the idea of going into business with my sister… who is also a stay at home. We got out a notepad and made a list of things we could realistically do with small children (4 year old, almost 2 year old, and a 6 month old).
The idea of refurbishing furniture was quickly scratched off the list.
Some other ideas were buying and selling unique and vintage items – I mean, our go to shopping is goodwill so it just made sense. Another idea was sewing up some non-clothing items like car organizers and stuff. My sewing room is in no way ready for that so maybe in the future… maybe. Another option was cloth diaper repair – we figured that shipping was just too high and that would have to be a local venture.. again – maybe later.
So that leaves buying and selling.. We are good at the buying part. I’m hoping we will be ok sellers. I think the most interesting part of this venture will be the research and risk part. Finding out of the item you purchased for a buck is worth just that or if it’s worth $50…
Sooo… our goal is to hit up estate sale, yard sales, thrift shops, consignment shops – whatever! I’ve set up a rickety little photography corner to take pictures of “inventory”.. you see – I’m already using business lingo! yay for me. We may even open up to consigning antique items.
Thankfully most yard sales and estate sales happen on Saturday mornings. The husbands don’t know it yet, but I think they will be on kid duty those mornings. 🙂 We might even send the kids out to do slumber parties with GiGi and Papa!
I’m really excited to get started on this and I’m thinking this will be super fun to work with my sister. We already have listed a few items and have a few more on the way.
Take a look at our etsy shop and let us know what you think. 🙂
